Recently I’ve made the best investment I’ve made in a while and have set myself up for a pretty awesome summer. I bought an inflatable kayak and can now properly and safely get out on the open water. I will be sharing some of my Great Lakes adventures on Chicago Rants while the water is warm.
The purchase was partially inspired by the Lake Michigan salmon fisherman on the Illinois Kayak Anglers Facebook page, and partially by the fact that I never really catch anything when I am shore fishing the big pond. Now that I’ve extended my range, I can hopefully put some dinner on my plate (once I learn the art of salmon fishing the lake).
Though I’ve yet to catch a fish from the vessel, it is named “Trout Slayer.” It sets up in 10 minutes, and can be launched at designated kayak/paddleboard launch areas. To answer your questions, yes it looks hilarious when I balance and carry the bag+paddles+lifejacket+fishing pole on my bicycle down to the lake. And yes, everyone stares at me when I take it out of the bag and pump it up…
Some day I’ll learn how to better blend into the general population, but for now, see you on the water.
And away to the depths I go.
Below is what I’ve ordered off Amazon, and had it on my doorstep in a matter of days.
More coming soon…
